Arts and Crafts for Children

Craft Prep is More than Buying Left Handed Scissors
Children love having fun and creating things - like what happens with crafts. Adults with children are terribly taxed for time, and even though they may love crafting; sometimes it just boils down to insufficient time to kick-back a little and do crafts. There's a lot you have to do and prepare for! It's a bit of work, to be sure, because you need to make it all happen; then there is actually doing it and making sure everyone is happy and satisfied - plus the clean-up at the end. There is a way to do crafts with your kids without the spectre of dire stress and headache. In this article we talk about a few of the things you can do to help make craft time more fun for everyone.
Avoid boredom by the older kids by making sure the project is engaging for all ages. This way everybody gets to play a part in creating something new that the whole family can enjoy. It also keeps you sane. If you happen to forget left handed scissors for your left handed child you can have the right handed child do all the cutting. You can instill good habits by encouraging your children to clean up after themselves. It's just part of the crafting process, plus there's nothing wrong with trying to instill positive habits in your children. You can present it as a game of cleanup. Left-handed scissors get put away first, and then everything else as quickly as possible. Who can get the most crayons put away. Who is the fastest at picking up the scraps of paper? Have the play their favorite music while they clean up. Try to make it fun, fast, and engaging for everyone.
Be mindful about your children's clothes. Do you have any old shirts laying around? Do your kids have any old pants or shorts they can use only for crafting? An apron will fill the bill quite nicely with older children. You can find very inexpensive (cheap-cheap) aprons at a craft store and sometimes other stores. You can potentially save some money by taking these protective measures. Left-handed scissor mistakes can happen, a bit freakish though, but it's not out of the question.
The fact that kids don't care if their craft is perfect means that there is less pressure on you. You won't likely see Picasso or Stewart masterpieces coming from your crafts but they will still be fun. You may find that your kids have glue and stray paper bits in places they didn't know existed. The sole idea of children's craft time is just to have fun. Even your left handed kids will enjoy having craft time with you.
